Kika Press – The evolution of Burlesque
Born in Sicily and emigrated to Rome to realize her dream, Petite Chérie tells the world of Burlesque and the change that this art has had over the years, evolving differently in different parts of the world.
How did the passion for Burlesque born?
There has always been. I was about nine years old when I fell in love with Gypsy Rose Lee, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and Betty Page and their films. I didn’t know what Burlesque was, I looked at these women, these Femme Fatales and dreamed of one day being like them. In Sicily, where I was born, the Burlesque was not known; therefore, when I was of age, I filled my suitcase with dreams and went away to study this performative art in all its facets.
For your shows you use very special and precious clothes, do you create them?
They were created right on top of me, on my body. Every single piece of fabric is sewn and designed especially for me. Every dress I wear in my shows has been designed and designed for me, conceived in every detail; with the help of Fashion Stylists, it then really takes shape.
You have traveled the world many times for your shows, what was the experience that struck you the most, the most particular?
I have had the privilege of performing in different parts of the world. Certainly in the United States as in the rest of Europe the Burlesque is particularly, loved and appreciated, and therefore the American public is the one to which I feel closely linked, because it can give me a particular, unique warmth!
